Day 9: Tenya Iida/Shoto Todoroki

"Tenya, have you seen my address book? I can't remember Mrs. Midoriya's street number."

Shoto is hunched over a stack of freshly handwritten wedding invitations, hands shaking a little. At first, Tenya was going to have them printed, but Shoto insisted. He wanted them to feel more personal. Now he just had to put them in envelopes.

Tenya hums from where he's chopping vegetables with calm efficiency. He wipes his hands and walks over, covering the pot on the stove.

"Your address book?" He asks, rounding the table, absentmindedly taking one of Shoto's hands and beginning to knead his aching palm.

"Oh, for the envelopes? I've already done them, here." He reaches into a drawer and pulls out a stack of neatly addressed envelopes. Shoto pulls his hands to his lips and presses a lingering kiss there.

"You didn't have to."

Tenya leans down to kiss his head, smiling.

"I know."

It was unusual for him to find himself infatuated with a person, let alone a woman. But a southern one was.. simply unheard of. Especially from him, sun kissed skin with a golden hue to it. A brunette with sun bleached hair. Not in the hero course but a general studies. Short legs that have a burn to the back of them, but it doesn’t look like she minded that much anyways.

It’s strange to see a new face halfway through the year, but she’s butterflied her way into his friend group. Bright and beamy and smelling like a wild-poppy. Quickly enamoring his friends, Uraraka and her tightly holding her hand as they face the lunch line. All smiles and beams as they plop down, the girl from the sunshine state smooshed against him, “‘m so sorry-“ she apologizes, “I always end up against you, I really hope you don’t mind”

It’s hard to mind when the girl of sunshine and bbq is squeezed against him, and her bare thigh pressed against his clothed thigh, their elbows touching every now and again, “I find it no trouble at all” he smiles softly as she pulls out her chips, opening them and placing them in the middle. Having no mind when Uraraka takes a few, nor when Midoriya or Todoroki do.

She smiles and looks over at him, leaning against him just a fragment of an inch. A sign of trust, that the butterfly has made her own land, her own people, “geez I’m so tired after math, and I’m not even done with the day..” Uraraka looks worried, an eyebrow raised as Todoroki speaks

“Maybe you should stop staying up so late to watch those sad animes. I hear you crying” he speaks, slowly and refined. Accusatory but gentle. Iida can feel her shrug against him.

“I keep telling you to watch them, ‘Nana’ is my favorite. It makes me cry each time” He can feel her giggle next to him as she slouches more and more, “maybe, honestly I’m just homesick”

“Why would you be homesick? I mean I understand it but UA is pretty great?” Midoriya remarks. The girl simply shrugs again and brings her knees to her chest.

“I miss my bed, and my friends and.. I miss my mom. And my dog.. and my cats. Jesus I even miss my chickens” A teardrop falls, smudging the mascara, “I fucked hated those chickens”

Iida shifts his arm, using it to console the girl who’s about to cry, “I’m sorry y/l/n. If you’d like you can go back to the dorms?” He offers but she sits up-right and lifts the tears that have collected on her eyelashes.

“No. I’ll finish today” she shakes her head, not minding Iidas arm around her shoulders, “are you guys willing to do a movie night?”

“I can’t.. it’s uh my moms birthday” Midoriya looks apologetic, “if I finish early I’ll come”

“But it’s a weekend and you all have families you want to go home to” she adds.

“I’ll watch a movie with you”

“Really?”

Iida doesn’t expect to find himself here, against the girl of his dreams. The girl who’s fast asleep against him. Laid on her stuffed bed with too many pillows and weird figures decorating her window staring at him.

He’s not uncomfortable, he’s more than comfortable with her head pressed against his chest, her leg against his abdomen and the tips of her hair tickling his nose. But it’s suffocating. Watching the girl he loves regret coming home here. Witnessing her laptop full of flights back home, the cheapest.

She sleeps soundly, eyes flickering behind closed lids, little jerks from her arms. A side of her he’d never seen, a side of the butterfly that shows her weakness. The exhaustion that seeps through her drooping wings. A tiredness that exists but will never fade. A sickness that never fades until at its orgin.

“Don’t go. Don’t leave. I want you to stay.”

They remain my favorite friendship in all of MHA, maybe only tied with the Rooftop club or the Big Three.

Who do I draw next?

People had always told Hizashi that he was good with children. Countless times throughout his life he had heard those words being spoken to him, whether they were from somebody close to him or not, they all seemed to share the same opinion.

Or five instances in which Hizashi Yamada was there for his students and one time in which he was there for his child.

I felt like being emotionally destroyed today, so I watched the dub of episode 151 of MHA. I don't know what it is about Izuku's face when he comes careening out of the sky like a fucking warhead and sees the state of the fight but it gets to me every single time in both languages. He looks positively haunted and it makes me want to cry, my poor son. Anywho, to recover, I decided to go rewatch 136 and 137, which are my favorite episodes of the entire goddamn series and I realized it's high time I do a little rant about them.

This is mostly for me because, again, I don't have anyone to rant about this with and I have got to get these emotions out of me somehow, but I hope someone else finds it enjoyable!

Welcome to Lizzy's MHA Evening Ramble: Why MHA episodes 136 (Deku vs. Class A) and 137 (A Young Woman's Declaration) are what really show us the impact Izuku has had on the people around him (specifically Class 1-A).

Honestly, I don't have much science to back up this post. There's not really a psychological reason behind why these episodes slap, but they do and I'm gonna talk about it.

You see, for better or for worse, everyone in Class-A has a different and unique personality. That much is obvious, I know, but that also means each of them have different things that impact them. Think about it, what means a lot to one person doesn't so much to another.

And yet, despite that, every single one of them had something to say to Deku. Every single one of them. For some of them, it was as simple as helping them organize their notes. For others, it was something he said or did that has followed them through the entire show.

"Meddling where you don't technically have to is the essence of being a hero, right?"

Izuku said that one time to Tenya. One time. But that, accompanied by his actions that night, became the corner stone of what Tenya strove to become.

They all voted to go after Izuku–not even voted, they all just got up and went. No second thoughts, no questions, they just went. They literally slapped a GPS out of Endeavor's hand so they could find him. They were not about to take no for an answer, not even from Izuku himself. It's insane, honestly, that one person managed to impact a group so deeply they'd risk everything to bring him back to their class.

I think a lot of the time, we think of difficult or unhealthy relationships as those where you give and give and give and the other person refuses to the same. No one really tells you what to do when someone you love dearly is giving so much it's hurting them, but they refuse to receive. It's an odd situation, but one I love seeing explored.

Could they have just let him go on his own? Fight by himself because that's what he wanted? Yeah, they totally could've. But they didn't, because they knew if the roles were reversed, Izuku wouldn't have thought twice about hunting them down. They weren't victims, they didn't want to be protected, they wanted to kick ass at his side.

They didn't do it out of heroism or even necessity I'd argue, they did it because that was their friend and they'd be damned if they let him suffer alone.

Still, despite that, Izuku wanted to protect them and he was so, so scared to lose them. It makes sense, in a sad, twisted way, that he would rather keep them locked away behind a wall and fight alone than let them stand at his side. He was haunted by the shit the people around him went through because of Shigaraki and AFO. It's far easier to blame yourself for things than it is to admit that it wasn't your fault and, sometimes, nothing could've done would've changed the outcome. I have no doubt it would've felt like he killed them himself if he went back and something happened, and the thought of that was far more terrifying than any threat to his own person. Of course he wanted to fight alone, he didn't want to fathom the possibility someone else would get hurt because they were around him.

But that wasn't for him to decide.

Sometimes, we forget a relationship goes two ways. It was dangerous for them to be there, sure, but that was a choice they made. A choice they wanted to make. They couldn't make him let them help, but he couldn't make them go away either. I have no doubt that if he got away that day, they'd have followed him to the ends of the earth until he gave in.

It's also easy to forget Izuku is just a kid. He's sixteen, barely in high school. Ochaco says as much when she pleads with the crowds to let him in. Her voice cracks as she begs this group mostly made of ADULTS to let a boy rest inside the walls of his own school. He probably doesn't physically know how to deal with these kinds of emotions yet (the frontal lobe, responsible in part for our emotional reactions to situations, doesn't fully develop until around 25/26, and even then research suggests it's never really fully done). It probably makes perfect sense to him that the best course of action is to be alone, even if it seems stupid to us.

We all need support at any age, but especially during those teenage years. Those are vital years of development as the mind develops and starts to take shape. Izuku has been beaten, traumatized, and terrified, it's no wonder he seems to be making such irrational decisions.

No kid should be carrying the weight of the entire goddamn world on their shoulders at that age and, of course, no one could've predicted that AFO was going to accelerate the process and force Deku to face him, but that doesn't make it any better.

However, that's the great thing about having friends, families, and partners, they come alongside you in those times and help you navigate this crazy new situation. They pick up the things you can't handle because they want to. Sometimes, they just stand next to you. Sometimes you have them lean on you for support. And, sometimes, they shoulder up next to you and carry you for a bit so you can catch your breath.

Because that's what you'd do for them.

Whenever I watch these episodes, I'm reminded of that scene in Lord of the Rings where Frodo thinks he can't go on and Sam says, "I can't carry the ring, but I can carry you!" I think this has similar vibes.

They couldn't carry One for All, but they could carry Izuku, and they were determined to do at least that.

An AU idea I've had for a long time since these have always been my favorite sets of brothers, staring Tensei as Mario and Tenya as Luigi. I want to do another drawing of how firebrand and thunderhand work in this AU so won't elaborate too much (YET)

Tensei: - The older twin by about an hour and 5 minutes (get it 15 haha) They're both 26 year-olds from Brooklyn, but grew up in Italy to Italian-Japanese parents - Loves (LOVES) painting (Yes that is a shine sprite on his hip) - He prefers to fight with firebrand or powerups in close range. He's very good with fireballs and just doesn't have that kind of fear (And they may or may not sizzle out at a distance)

Tenya: - The younger of identical twins (He likes to shave off a little of his eyebrows to keep the two from getting confused) - Always covered in dust despite being allergic - He prefers to use weapons, or at least fight at a distance. This is because his thunderhand is very unruly and unreliable

-Midoriya has definitely researched America due to All Might's connection to it and has picked up on a few American phrases or metaphors in English. -He's a decent drawer since he's spent so many years drawing Japan's Heroes in his notebooks. Midoriya used to suck at art though. -His nerdy ass definitely watched Matpat in primary school and Junior High. -He ABSOLUTELY hates messy spaces. If one of his figurines are out of place he'll move it back on instinct. Same with other things in his room or just around the dormitories. -Midoriya has slight trouble understanding social cues.

-Iida has constantly tried to teach Midoriya how to tie a tie correctly, but he's never learned. -Midoriya sends goodnight and good morning texts to Inko everyday and facetime occasionally when he's free. -Ever since the culture festival he's helped Jirou with organizing her other notes regarding their classes.

-Midoriya loves spending quality time with you: -He likes walking with you in the halls of UA while you're switching classes. He'll brush his hand against yours but he's always a little nervous to hold it. -Midoriya would support all of your interests and even look up the ones he didn't know much information on just so he could have something to rant about with you. -He'll join you and help you in study sessions or he'll train with you so you both can give each other tips and improve your quirks together. -He's really good when it comes to getting gifts. Even if it's something small, it's usually very heart-felt and thoughtful. Definitely something with sentimental value. -Midoriya hates it when your insecure about something. He'll compliment you and talk to others about how great you are. But, he'll do this either way whether you're feeling insecure or not.
