"Its the last snow of the season."
Cas looked up from their crochet, soft ivory wool nearly half done up into a shawl.
"I know, Thomas told me before he and Edith went to town." Despite the years, Lucille still made a sour face at the other woman's name, though her hostility had diminished. She hadn't taken Thomas from her, not truly, although her presence was an annoyance.
"I think I'll be able to make it to the river again soon. We should make a day of it, the four of us."
Lucille curled a slender finger in Cas' dark, curly hair.
"No," she said gently, almost a sigh. "Just us."
They laughed, hand resting on the silver head of their cane as they put the yarn and needle down to stand.
"Oh, well, if you *insist*, I suppose we can make it just the two of us." Cas dramatically out a hand to their chest, feigning scandal and making Lucille smile; A tiny thing, just a twitch of the lips, but it still made their heart flutter.
"I do insist." Lucille pressed a kiss to her partners temple. And they leaned into her with a soft hum.
"Who am I to deny you?" They half sighed into her shoulder, content and warm despite the slush accumulating outside.
It would be spring again soon, and as much as they hated its overbearing warmth, it was a blessing to see Lucille in the sun, sitting in the grass with her eyes closed. They remembered how the breeze ruffled her hair, the smell of her perfume mixing with the fresh scent of wild flowers.
"What are you thinking about?" She asked, nearly whispering into their hair as she held them.
"You," they replied, barely audible.
"As always, you."
